Well, usually, yes. The most recent certainly did not mean to. It was exceptionally poor luck on his part, really, but he chose to make the best of a dire situation.

It is rather vaguely defined what it truly means for a sin to be great enough to call to us, so usually it is far more... intentional, shall I say. Human sacrifice is common, but it was not my master's hand that plunged a knife into his brother's heart. That was the cult that had kept both of them as lambs for slaughter. But seeing his brother's murder, well. The hate he felt in that moment was enough. It was not a hate for the murderer, for the cult there, but for everyone who had wronged him and his family. A dark and honest part of him offered up his brother's soul for that power, even if unconsciously. And so, I appeared.
